How to change the volume of the connecting sound

How can I change the volume for the ringing-tone when I connect to the
internet via a modem? I want it to be ringing without any sound.
 
Check you modem properties and set it to silent. Or else use the Windows
volume control and turn it down.
 
In the Modem Properties, find the "Extra Settings" box, and put in

M0=0
