How new messages are displayed in layered folders

I make extensive use of subfolders in Outlook, as well as the rules
functionality to route messages directly preselected folders.

The problem is that only the subfolder itself, not the upper folders, become
bolded when a new message is received in that folder. So if the upper folder
is closed you don't see a new message has arrived in a subfolder unless you
actually open the upper folder(s) -- which kind of defeats the purpose of
create a layered, closable folder structure.

Is there any way to also have upper folders bolded when a new message is
received directly in a subfolder?

Thanks in advance

Of course not. Only the folder in which the new message resides will be
bolded. SInce the new message does not reside in the parent folder, the
parent folder will not be bolded.

Not that I'm aware. However, that's one of the uses of the Unread Messages
search folder. WIth that folder open, you'll see names of the folders where
the message resides.
