How do I update Java Virtual Machine

I have IE 6.0 loaded. When I go to some sites a
message comes up "To display this page correctly you
need to download and install the following components:
Java virtual Machine.

I go though the exercise and am told I am up-to-date
with all software (W2K and IE6). I haven't found a
place to download just the JVM and am at a loss as
to how to update this software.

Any ideas?
