How do I track referrals with Business contact manager?

I would like to track customer referrals through Business Contact Manager. I
wish to track where someone was referred from, plus how many referrals a
particular client made.

I have an incentive program in mind where a client will receive a free gift
after a certain number of referrals are made. So, I would like BCM to keep
track of how many referrals a client made, and alert me when that number
reaches a certain level. Can anyone advise how to set this up in BCM?

One thought would be .....
In the Contact Record of the Potential (Referred Client), open a New History
Item/Opportunity and in the Initiated By field select the Contact Name who
did the referring.

Then open the Opportunity folder and first add into the view the Initiated
By column. After that column is added you can then Group the view as
Initiated By, then Linked To. This grouping will show you the people who
have initiated referrals, the number they have initiated, and who those
referrals were.

As far the BCM alerting you when a cetain referral count is attained for any
particular person who initiates them, you have me stumped there. Not sure
BCM can do that?
