How do I synchronize networked computers

G

Guest

After mapping network drives and files, and ensuring all
are 'share'able, the synchronization manager still fails
to list any options to sync other than 'My Current Home
Page'. It is my impression that it should list all
mapped drives and/or files so that they can be synced
between networked computers for later offline use.

Help?

If you are running Windows XP Pro, go to Tools=>Folder
Options=>Offline Files and make sure it is enabled. You may need to
disable Fast User Switching if you have it enabled.

If you are running XP Home, you will not be able to use the Offline
Files functionality as it doesn't support it...

The following need to be true if you want to see items to synchronize
for a given share in the sync manager:
- The share on the server must support caching (cache setting not set
to "No caching"). Note that a share does support manual caching by
default.
- A file for this share needs to be in the CSC cache. To be sure it
is the case you need to select the file in explorer, right click and
select "Make available offline". Items in the cache have an overlay
blue icon to distinguish them.
- Once the steps above are done the share should appear in the
synchronization manager.
