What's the best synchronization software?

Hi all,

I have a working directory at work on my office PC. And I some times do work
at home at my home PC. And I also keep a copy on my laptop. Due to company
policies, I have to use USB drive to copy and paste from one computer to
another. I keep adding/deleting/modifying files on these three computers and
the directories are now a mess. I lost track about which PC keeps which
version of my work and when the files get more and more the whole situation
becomes a nightmare.

Could anybody recommend a good and effective sync software to handle these
things, esp. the sync through the USB drive? I assume the software should
not only copy and paste, but also resolve the conflicts by merging and
asking me to decide how to merge or discard files/changes.

I need the best sync software to boost my productivity. Thanks a lot!

i think so. besides, it will crash down when it encounters a file path which
is too long.

You might try FolderSync a freebie from http://www.kalab.com/freeware/ -
has no nags or adware.

I once had a project that just drove me buggy trying to keep track of
versions when working from home and the office. I got into the habit of
always saving my day's work with the project name and a number that I
manually incremented by one every time that I did work on the project. The
highest number was always the latest version.

The system was cumbersome but it sure worked well and provided a lot of
backup in case of system failures.

Yet another one for you to try beyond the 4 or 5 I see others suggesting:

I use Save n Sync. It has an option, called EOFM, that allows it to
copy all files including "locked", open and protected system files.
this allows me to create a perfect backup copy of the entire boot disk.
If the original fails, the backup is bootable. Sometimes a restore to a
previous days configuration is necessary.

It will probably do what you want as well.
