how do I link email from another sender to a business contact?

I want to link a message from a vendor to the client I am working with, how
can I link this to my clients business contact?
 
Open the message item and click on the link button in the upper right corner
task bar. You then have the option to manually link the message to whatever
Business Contacts you wish to select.

I did this. I then closed the message and saved it. when I look in the
business contact I liked to, it does not show up. When I re-open the emial
message it does not show that it is linked.
