How do I get Outlook to display plain text attachments?

I get a substantial amount of e-mails that contain combinations of text and
links as a group of attachments where Outlook blocks the text portion of the
e-mail, resulting in blank pages with the occaisional link appearing soewhere
on the page. This happens whether or not the e-mail comes from an unknown
source or from someone on my safe senders list. For example, I am a student
at the University of Michigan and about half of the e-mails I get from varius
University departments have no text, despite the fact that the umich.edu
domain is on my safe sender's list. I have been unable to discover any way
to stop Outlook from blocking these plain text attachments from people I
trust. If anyone else has seen this problem or heard of a soulution I would
appreciate hearing about it.

Outlook doesn't block text in the message. Something is damaging the message
before the message is received in Outlook. Virus scanners that integrate
with Outlook are a known source of being able to cause corruption to a
message. If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable
this integration and download the messages again.

I am continuing to try to understand what might be causing this problem.
Just to provide a little more information;
I am running Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise (student license) Edition on
Vista Small Business with no virus protection, just the Windows fire wall and
Windows Defender for security.
When I get the blank messages I forward them to my Yahoo account and I can
read them just fine there. I'm afraid I don't understand where the
corruption might be occuring.
Thanks for the help!
