How do I get out of safe mode?

I had asked this before, I can't get out of safe mode. I have tried clicking
on "Run" and typing in "MSCONFIG", that didn't work. In my "SAFEBOOT" option,
it is NOT check marked. I don't get it! I was on it one night, logged off,
got on it the next morning, now this!! I have WindowsXP- HomeEdition. Thank
you in advance!

Please do not start a new thread on an existing topic - continue that thread
instead.

What happens when you press F8 repeatedly during the early boot phase? Do
you get the Windows boot-up menu? Can you select Normal Mode? What happens
when you do?

Nothing happens when I hit F8, I have tried that also! :(

You need to slow down, take a breath, and explain in detail what is
happening. Also, please don't delete the text of previous posts because
this makes it difficult to follow the thread.

You said that you "tried clicking on "Run" and typing in "MSCONFIG",
that didn't work" but that's seems not to be the case because you also
said that SAFEBOOT is not checked. What you seem to have meant that was
that you started the System Configuration Utility but even though
"Safeboot" was not checked on the "Boot.ini" tab, you are still starting
in Safe Mode.

Run Msconfig again. Click on the "Boot.ini" tab. In the window at the
top you should see several lines. Please copy them *exactly* in your
next post. The line(s) under the heading [operating systems] may be too
long to fit in the window; if so, use the horizontal scroll bar to be
sure you see the entire line.

With respect to F8 -- you should tap the F8 key about once/second
starting as soon as you turn the power on (if starting with power off)
or as soon as the screen goes black (if rebooting).

Ok, so first, when I started the System Config utility and SafeBoot was not
checked, the answer is YES I still started in safe mode. I was able to do F8,
it was already highlighted in "normal mode". Here is the line from my
"Boot.ini" tab, [boot loader] timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS[operating
systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition"/no execute=optin/fast detect

Thank you Lem, again for helping me!!

A few thoughts:

You might be forced into Safe Mode because of a graphics or other
driver, that's damaged. Update, or reload the video drivers, look in
Device Manager for devices with a problem.

Google Groups search on the problem. There are articles that suggest
removing SP3, remove Norton, etc.

Wasn't there some malware recently that either started you in Safe Mode,
or created a background image that said Safe Mode? I may be remembering
wrong.. But change the background, as a test, or try using F8 to boot
to Safe Mode. Once there, use System Restore to go back to a date
before the problem first occurred. Try running these:

Malwarebytes© Corporation

SuperAntispyware

Since you are able to get the menu of startup options in F8, what
happens when you select Last Known Good Configuration?

Also, we need more info. When did this problem start? What did you do
right before it happened? (Examples: inadvertenly installed malware,
installed a program or update, performed some type of maintenance, etc.)
