I've installed XP, but none of my applications made the journey. How can I
restore to Win ME, and how should I re-run the install to get my apps back?

You might try installing your apps from their original installation media..

Re. reverting back, you can only do this if you used the retail upgrade or
retail full version of XP.. if you bought the cheaper OEM version, in all
likelihood, you have over written ME..

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup
the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can
you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

Thanks all. I did buy the OEM version, and paid a small price. Having a
clean registry was nice, though.

I've found all my installation disks, and am back up and running.
