How do I change the settings in equation editor in Word?

When opening saved documents, the equations appear with random pictures
instead of mathematical symbols as if the language type or font in equation
editor needs to be changed to its mathematical one. This also appears when
documents are printed.
When inserting an equation, crucial symbols displayed in the toolbar such as
minus, plus and the integral sign do not appear or appear as something
different. However, the equations are corrected when edited in Word with a
typically configurated equation editor.

DH, please make another post to the newsgroup and tell us what
version of Word you're using. We need more information that just
"Word 2002" or "Word 2003". Open up Word, and in the Help menu,
click on "About Microsoft Office Word" or "About Microsoft Word"
and give us the version number from that screen. For example,
mine says "Word 2003 (11.6359.6360) SP1".

We also need to know the version of Windows. If you're using
Windows XP, let us know whether or not you've installed SP-2.
