How can I keep Equation Editor toolbar open while not using it

I am using Word 2003. I want to use the Equation Editor while typing a Word
document. Often all I need is a mathematical symbol. As far as I can see I
have to insert the Equation Editor each time I wish to use it which wastes a
lot of time. I would like to know how I can keep the Equation Editor toolbar
open all the time, not just when I'm using it. At the moment, I use Insert
Object to open the Editor and insert in the document the symbol I require. As
soon as I resume ordinary typing the toolbar closes despite the fact that I
may need it again in another word or two. The time wasted is very
frustrating. Using the mathematical symbols under Insert Symbol is much
faster but the symbols available are so limited in range they are virtually
useless.

Save the inserted Equation editor symbols that you use regularly as
formatted autocorrect or autotext entries which should speed things up a
bit.

Good question. I don't have a good answer but a work around is to assign a
keyboard shortcut to InsertEquation and then it quickly pops up again.

That's a good suggestion, but there's already a built-in keyboard
shortcut for Equation Editor -- Ctrl+Alt+Q. You can change that if you
want, but that's the Microsoft default. Here are a couple of other
suggestions:

1. You can put an Equation Editor (EE) icon on your toolbar so all you
need to do is just click the icon and EE opens. We have instructions
on how to do this in our article titled "Equation Editor Tips &
Tricks", available at the link below. There are also other helpful
hints that will help "Foxy", like changing EE's behavior so that it
opens up in a separate window instead of as dotted lines and a
floating toolbar, and using the EE window as a scratchpad. Here's the

2. You could also download and use the 30-day evaluation of MathType.
MathType is the full-featured version of EE, and offers not only
additional symbols & templates, but much more convenience than EE, as
well as many time-saving features (such as being able to assign your
own keyboard shortcuts, and saving symbols, templates, equations,
equation fragments, etc. to the toolbar so you don't have to type them
each time). After the evaluation period, if you choose not to buy
MathType, it loses many of its features, but remains usable in
MathType Lite mode, which retains all the functionality of EE, but
with a few added features (such as retaining the MathType fonts). You
