Equation in Word 2007

I am using MS Word 2007 and the Equation Editor under 'Insert' on the
'Symbols' Tool bar is Greyed out and I can't click it. I need to enter
equations in my word document. Could you please advise me how I can get this
'Equation' tool working in Word 2007?
 
You will have to save your document in Word 2007 format for the new equation
editor to work. If you prefer the older file format for compatibility
reasons you can use the equation editor of Word 2003 (on the Insert tab,
click Object, and locate Microsoft Equation 3 in the list).
