Strange symbols in Word equation editor

After entering an equation correctly in Word Equation 3.0, once out of the
equation editor, math symbols appear as strange symbols. As an example, the
integral symbol appears as a squirrel.

With Equation Editor open, click on Style > Define. make sure the
LC Greek, UC Greek, and Symbol styles are set to Symbol font --
and don't ever change them to another font.
