how do I change the color of the bars in a Bar Chart?

used to be able to hover over the bar and change the color from there. now
can't find how to change the color of the bar itself as opposed to
background, axis, etc.

I happened to stumble on it.
Home tab > click the bar you want to change > under Drawing, Shape Fill,
click the pointer and select the colour of your choice.

Hi Carolyn

Do you mean you used to be able to in 2003 and now you can't in 2007? Or
something different? If you are using 2007, single click a bar to select
that series (or double click to select the data point) -> right click ->
format data series -> fill. Alternatively, on the cart tools -> format tab
(which will only appear if the chart is selected) you can select the element
you want to format using the drop down list on the left hand side (in the
'current selection' area) then click 'format selection'.
