Double-click editing of chart items in in PPY2007?

Adam J. Fein

In PPT 2003, I could double-click a chart item and then get a pop-up with
options. Example: to change the color of a bar in a bar chart, I only (1)
double-click on the bars then (2) select fill color.

IN PPT 2007, I have to (1) right click, (2) scroll down to "format data
series" (3) select "fill", (4) click "solid fill" button, (5) open drop-down
tab, (6) select fill color.

Can I set PPT 2007 to work like PPT 2003, or am I now doomed to suffer with
another one of MSFT's productivity-sapping "enhancements"?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hi Adam,

if you click on a chart in PowerPoint 2007, you will see three new Chart
Tools tabs on the Ribbon. The right one is for formatting, you will find a
fill color icon there. It will work quicker than the right mouseclick.

Best regards,
Ute

I appreciate your response, but it sounds like the answer to my question is
"no."

I don't want to highlight and then move my mouse again to the "ribbon." I
want to double-click and do something.

Thus, my question is not just limited to fill, such as changing the scale of
an axis. I must (1) click to highlight the axis, (2) right-click to open the
menu, and then (3) scroll down to a submenu and navigate.

Can I change it back to double-clicking opens the most obvious formatting
choice? Can I buy an add-in to restore this functionality?

A small rant: I know that user opinions don't matter, but I'm very
frustrated that MSFT changed the way that I have been working with its
programs for 10+ years and did not provide an option to go back.

You're not alone, Adam. Formatting charts definitely was not made faster or
easier in 2007. We're all hoping our complaints have been heard and we get
some of that functionality back in the next version.
