How can I swap back to domain membership?

After specifiying on a laptop running Windows 2000 Professional SP4 that it
is member of an Workgroup instead of a Domain it is not possible to login on
the machine after reboot (the user name and password used for domain login
are not accepted anymore).

Do you know a way to switch back to the domain membership without beeing
forced to re-install the operating system?

Take the machine back to the domain setting and have the network
administrators re-join it to the domain.

Richard,

How to "take the machine back to domain setting" if I am not able to login
anymore?

Also, the sysadmin claims that he needs to reinstall again the machine and I
am not so happy with that either.

Thank you.

The sysadmin should have a local administrator account setup on the PC that
would allow him to login and then add the machine back to the domain. If you
just need to have a user account setup to match the credentials of the
previous domain user name, he should be able to also do this with the local
admin account. If he faild to have a local admin account setup, or doesn't
know the password, you will either have to use 3rd party software to change
the admin password, or do a re-install.

See CD's response. The system administrator should be able to log on with a
local Admin account and re-join the domain without reformatting and
reinstalling unless he/she cannot remember or does not know the local Admin
account password.
