Help Help Can't login to Windows 2000

Jason Rich

I need help.

I use my laptop(Dell, Windows 2000) to get connected to work through
VPN and the logon screen always showed Login, Password, Domain(which
is the domain at Work)

Now, I tried to share some files in that laptop at home and since I
weren't able to do it from another comouter, I changed the domain to
workgroup "HOME".

And the trouble then started...

I rebooted the laptop , and then could not find the Domain box in the
login screen. All it showed me was Login, Password and a small box
"Login using Dial Up Networking"

I tried both ways of using Dialup(VPN) and not using it but still it
would not let me login. I have many important files stored in that
laptop.

Please help me and let me know how I would proceed. I am relatively new

at troubleshooting computer stuff.

Thanks a lot in advance

Take it back to work and have the IT Staff re-join it back to the Domain.

Thanks Phillip,
I will try that....

Since the IT guys are not located in this country, it would take
atleast a couple of days for me to get it resolved...I know they would
be sending me the document to see if I can do it by myself.

But I have a quick question..Is there anyway, I can get the laptop to
Work and get it done by myself,, I mean get connected to office
networking and try logging in ..if that is possible.

Let me know if it works and thanks for responding

It has to be in a physical position to reach the Domain Controller
uninhibited. It needs Domain Administrator rights to perform the Join. The
reason you were able to unjoin it is probably because have Local Admin
rights on the individual machine,...generally users are never given Local
Admin rights due to things just like this, but unfortuneatly some
Applications that are poorly written do not function if the user isn't a
Local Admin.

You should not un-join it anymore :)
