This afternoon we had a split second power outage. Unfortunately for me, my
UPS did not work. Now when I try to boot up, it gets to the Microsoft
Windows 2000 Professional screen and stays there. It is not hung up as the
blue horizontal line close to the bottom is still moving but the blue bars
by "Starting up" have only gone about 2/3 of the way across. It has been
that way for over 2 hours now. I did hit the reset button a couple of times
earlier and was able to boot up in the safe mode. The first time was pretty
slow but it did boot up, the second time in safe mode was much faster. So I
thought that i'd try normal again but as I said it's been over 2 hours. Any
ideas? Thanks, Craig

Check Event Viewer and Device Manager for errors and or non-starting
devices.

If there was a surge prior to the outage there's a chance your
network card took a hit. Just for a test, try removing it and
see if the system then boots normally. If so, replace the card.

If the network card is okay, boot to safe mode and choose "Last known Good
configuration"
If no works, reboot, and do a repair
Go into the BIOS and set your first boot device to CD-ROM. Restart with your OS CD
in the tray and hit any key to star with CD.

Choose "repair" and use your ERD or Recovery Console to complete.
