Hotmail problem:

R

Robert

I have a Dell 8200 Pentium IV with XP home edition and am connected to
the internet via DSL. Everything seems to be running normally however
when I tried to logon into Hotmail it prompts me by asking for my
password which it never does. I usually just click the MSN icon and it
takes right to my Hotmail. The icon is fine as is everything else. The
only thing I can think of is that there was an Adobe pop up that
wanted me to update, which I denied. Could this be the problem and if
so how do I remedy this? I don't want to have to login each and every
time I go to Hotmail. What's weird is that the MSN icon is active and
so I assume my acess to Hotmail should be fine but it has this
problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Robert

I should have added the error message it gives when I try and login to
hotmail:

The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please retype the e-mail
address and password, or sign up if you haven't already done so. Need
help signing in?

I type in the password and click remember name and password but this
comes up everytime since yesterday. After I type in the password it
lets me in. So it should remember it since I clicked the box to do so.
I've also tried re-starting the computer but it does the same thing.

Robert,

Clear your Cookies firstly

When you go to sign in it says always remember username/password on this computer

Within MSN Messenger there is an option to always sign you directly in to your e-mail

In Hotmail itself there is an option to automatically sign in to passport sites

As this is Hotmail, you should be asking them for support directly & not this newsgroup.

Lastly. Spoof your e-mail unless you're fond of lots of SPAM in your inbox

Have you ever tried contacting Hotmail? I have, and they are no help
whatsoever. This site is for all computer problems so I thought
someone might know something that might help.

1. how do I clear my cookies?

2. I clicked where it said always remember my name/password on this
computer

3. How do you 'spoof' your email?

Robert,

Open INTERNET EXPLORER
TOOLS menu INTERNET OPTIONS | GENERAL tab | DELETE COOKIES button

When you use the newsgroups you can use any e-mail address. I use Outlook Express not
Google Groups but there must be somewhere you can use any e-mail address like: (e-mail address removed)
etc

I did manage to find and delete all the cookies and I also deleted my
temporary interenet files because as I was looking it said that I was
over my limit and thought this might be related to the problem I was
having. However when I tried it again I got the same results. I looked
at MSN Messenger and couldn't find the option where it says 'always
logs into my email'. In fact it doesn't list Hotmail as an option at
all. I also looked for the option in Hotmail to sign into passport
sites and couldn't find it either. May I ask, what is the purpose of
this? I thought MSN and Hotmail were the same? As far as getting spam
etc I get very little as my firewall/antivirus seem to filter most
along with my settings in Hotmail and I would rather not use Outlook
for anything.

I just found out that Microsoft has updated Hotmail with a newer
version. Jeeez I wish they would leave well enough alone. I'll just
bet thats the reason why I can't automatically log into my Hotmaill
account because I haven't done anything or added anything to my
computer to make it act up like this. It was working fine before all
this and although its not a huge problem like others have posted on
here it is annoying.

Unless you're already signed-in to MSN/Windows Messenger and go to Hotmail
via clicking on the Messenger icon in Notification Area and selecting
"Inbox", you will *always* have to sign-in to access your Hotmail account.
The new Hotmail interface (Windows Live Hotmail) has nothing to do with
this.

If you have multiple Live.com IDs, the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant might
be of benefit to you.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the help. The system is back to
normal today and I didn't do anything except delete my cookies and
temp files, Hotmail corrected itself.
