Hotmail down today?

oscar

On both of my XP machines Hotmail times out. I can get to my Hotmail sign-in
pages but trying to connect to Hotmail is causing both XP machines to
time-out. I have no problem accessing websites on my XP's. Just Hotmail and
some of the Windows discussion sites. Using Hotmail Live on my Vista machine
I can access my Hotmail accounts but not on my XP's. Both XP's were working
fine all year until today. Is Microsoft servers down today?

The Hotmail website works fine for me, running Firefox 3 with Ubuntu.

Thnx for the quik reply.

I tried what you said. No go.

More info:
The Vista has Live ID Hotmail. The two XP's have "regular" Hotmail. I can
get to my Hotmail with the Visat machine but not the XP's. The XP laptop and
Vista laptop are using same wireless that is being provided by the third.

On the XP laptop I've tried System Restore twice. CCleaner, too but neither
helped.

I tried using a neighbors wireless connection on the XP laptop and was able
to get to my Hotmail. Using my wireless, I can't get to my email on either XP.

Now the desktop is connected to cable modem and then to wireless. I'd figute
that the desktop would be able to get to the Hotamil but no. XP laptop
neither. Both XP machines stop at https://login.live.com/ppsecure/post...etc.
The golden lock symb0l (security) is shown.

I suspect that my wireless system (NETGEAR box) is preventing me to get to
regular Hotmail. My wireless is proteced with a key (WPA). So, I'm going to
have a look at my XP computer that is hosting the wireless.

Any ideas?

Both computers (XP) regular Hotmail

Well, if one system can get to it and the other can't, there's the answer to
the question in your post title; the Hotmail service is not down. You have
a local problem.

If you can browse via your connection, whatever wireless encryption you are
using is irrelevant.

A simple cold reboot may help, too.

What about login from here:

Yeah,

It seems to be a local problem. I tried 2 XP laptops using my wireless and
my XP desktop that's getting the signal from the wireless and "regular"
Hotmail will not work. But using the same wireless system my Vista will work
with its Hotmail Live (basic package). Also, the 2 XP laptops when riding on
my next door neighbor's wireless signal, I can get to my regular Hotmail.

I never came across this problem. So, why does Vista laptop's Hotmail Live
work on the same wireless signal when the 2 XP laptops or the desktop that is
connected to the wireless router can't get a Hotmail connection?

I've tried every reasonable software tweak including Internet options,
System Restore, downloading IE 7 7.05703.13 and other tweaks. But nuthin'.

If Hotmail Live wouldn't work on the Vista I'd assume it was the local
server but Vista works. Xp doesn't.

Hmmm.........

Hmmm...

Any other ideas> Anyone?

Script,

It works with the Vista using my wireless but won't work with the 2 XP
laptops using my wireless. But using the neighbor's wireless the XP's can
connect using your link.

BTW: My 2 XP's can get into any website... real fast... except regular
Hotmail.

Huh?

thnx for your ideas.
