Windows XP Home with SP1, on a 2003 Compaq Presario --
Computer comes back on automatically within a couple of
minutes after I put it manually into hibernation; same
thing with standby. Does anybody know why this is
happening, and how to correct it? Thanks -- KatMuse

I had (have) the same problem, and have found that I can work around it by disconnecting the network cable before putting into Standby mode. I suspect in my case, and maybe yours, there's some periodic polling taking place that wakes up the system. Hope that helps.

sounds as if you need to go into your BIOS and make sure
there are NO "wake on event" or "wake on IRQ" flags in
it. As in the other posted reply, you may have "wake on
NIC" set to Yes.
