Computer will not stay in Stand-By Mode or Hibernate Mode

When ever i put my computer into Stand-By or Hibernate it stays in that mode
for about 3 seconds then comes right back on. I don't have any programs that
are running (to my knowledge). I do not know why it does this. Does anyone
have any ideas? Please help. Thank-You in advance!

I have an HP Compaq desktop tower...a few years old running Windows XP HOME
SP2 Version 5.1 build 2600
