We have just had to totally reboot pc and i am trying to
reinstall microsoft works, but the product ID is missing
how can i get hold of it

Look on the papers that came with the CDs? Look on the
computer for stickers? Look on the envelopes or jewel cases
that came with the CDs?
Buy new versions and be careful to write everything down.
