HELP: XP Fax. Sending faxes problem.

G

Guest

I am trying to send faxes. On every attempt the "Welcome to the Send Fax
Wizard"
box appears, stating, "to fax a document, create or open it in a windows
based
application, and print to a fax printer". This occurs regardless of the fax
methods
i choose. All configurations have been checked and are OK.

Problem: When i press "next", another box appears titled. "SEND FAX WIZARD".
stating "fax server information cannot be retrieved. The fax wizard will
close now".

I have looked through other discussion postings and have not found anything
similar, although, i have suspition that Nortan anti virus may have something
to do with it, as this began to occur when Norton posted the following
message:

Details: Rule "Default Block Netspy Trojan Horse" blocked communication.
Local address: All local network adaptors (1024).
Process name is "C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxclnt.exe".

Question: What to do? How to do it?

I have tried re-installation. No good!
I have tried system restore. No good!

Please reply.

Has fax ever worked in this installation? The two most common causes for
this error:
1. The presence of any Norton product on your partition. Disable them all
and see if fax works.
2. Updating an older version of Windows XP to SP2 before trying to install
the fax service appear to be encountering a problem installing the fax
service. In these cases there is no error message during the installation
(distinguishing this from the very common problem where the installation
routine states it cannot find the necessary files). The installation appears
to proceed without error, but when it is over there is no fax printer
apparent and any attempt to send a fax results in the error message "Fax
server information cannot be retrieved. The Fax Wizard will now close." This
problem appears to occur because the security data base is corrupted as
documented here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/

In reply: Yes, fax has worked and still does work when recieving faxes, and
sending via items previously created and stored in outbox, all of which are
now sent. Problem is i cannot create any further faxes to send by any method
or
application as "Welcome to the Send Fax Wizard" box always appears and when
attempting to use wizard "fax server information cannot be retrieved" message
always appears.

I have uninstalled Norton product and there is no change.
Fax was installed a couple of weeks ago. One year after XP product purchase
June 2005.

I don't know what you mean by fax service. It operates via internal modem and
phone line.
