Fax problem

This is really strange! I have a manual fax machine here at home, but I am
trying to use Microsoft Fax service instead. When I try to send a fax, it
appears on the fax machine, and doesn't go to the expected recipient, even
though it dials the right number. Weird or what?

I would expect a local fax machine to print a fax being send, if it's
connected to the same phone line, just like you would expect to be able to
hear a conversation if you picked up an extension phone. Your local machine
hears the fax tones and does what it was made to do, print the fax. I would
also expect the designated recipient to get the fax, it surprises me that
isn't happening. Does your recipient get the fax if you disconnect the
manual machine from the phone line before sending?

Now I feel really stupid! Your explanation sorts it out fine. Actually,
I'm not convinced the recipient didn't get it anyway. Thanks for that.
Laurie.
