HELP! XP Driver for AGFA 310p scanner?

The software disks that came with it only support 95 and NT, installation of
them even using compatability wizard failed and caused a crash... i have
searched the internet for updates, and found that AGFA stopped producing
driver updates after Windows 2000. unfortunately installing that update also
caused a crash. one advice site suggested that my scanner was re-badged as
the ACER 310p, so i installed the xp driver for that, and can get the
scanner to hum, but there is a device error. Scanners and Camera's wizard
claims that in this state the device is working fine....
if there is no driver available anywhere, how difficult would it be to make?
surely the windows 2000 driver can be adjusted to work? please can anyone
help me- or has my lovely and barely used scanner turned into a
paperweight?!

The 310p is one of the Agfa scanners that doesn't work under XP.
There are however beta drivers for Windows 2000 available. For
this scanner, there will never be XP drivers in the future since as
of September 2001 Agfa is no longer in the desktop scanner and
digital camera business.

thanks, lol yeah i've read that same text about 1000 times in 5 languages
tonight..... i will make it work if its the death of me!
i used to be able to program computers back in `91 `92, there must be a way-
if i installed old windows on this machine i could make it work, so the
hardware is good just the software needs tweaking a little- any suggestions
appreciated 'cos i really know nothing!!
