Scanner Installation??

Bought a new PC running XP Media Center. Have an old Acer Prisa 620P flatbed
scanner which connects via parallel cable. The software that came with the
scanner is Mirascan V3.20 (Windows 98 era or so).

Problem: When I hook up the scanner I get New Hardware Found (Flatbed
Scanner 11), but when I insert the CD it says there are no drivers on it for
this device (there ARE drivers on there, just not for XP obviously). Even if
I browse to the folder that contains the drivers, still no dice. I also
tried to choose one of the predefined drivers that comes with XP, but the
choices I get are Flatbed Scanner 5, Flatbed Scanner 13, etc but no Flatbed
Scanner 11. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

See (via the manufacturer of the scanner's web page) if they chose to
discontue support for the scanner you have when Windows XP came out. That
would be *their choice* - and amongst printer/scanner manufacturer's - it is
not uncommon to discontinue support for a product for each subsequent OS
release.

I just found a site URL www.driverscollection.com where it has
620P/PT Flatbed Scanner driver with a filesize of 8.9Mb
For systems: Windows 2000/Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows ME/Windows NT
This is not the only place, but an option if the distributor's
(manufacturer) website isn't offering it for download anymore. If this
download seems to be newer than what you have, you may want to give it a try.
Since it's not specifically mentioned about XP, you may have to uninstall it
IF it doesn't work. Yet, there are many backward compatible softwares that
XP will handle.

You might check at Benq.
http://www.benq.us/
They make the drivers for your scanner. It shows one for XP on their site.

Try installing the driver first. Do not connect the scanner till instructed
to do so. Check with scanner manufacturer for driver update for XP
compatibility.

To the above advice I should add:

Before installing the driver, roll back to a restore point *before* you
hooked up the scanner for the first time. If you don't do this, Windows may
remember things that you'd rather it didn't remember.
