Flatbed Scanner + XP = i'm doing something wrong?

I have an Acer 640p flatbed scanner that's probably close to 3 or 4 years
old. This spring I got a new dell computer with XP on it... and I can get the
TWAIN driver i used before installed just fine, but I can't get the scanner
itself to be regonized by the computer. It recognizes new hardware at boot
up, tries to help me find a driver, i pick one the computer has. It installs
and says it's ok. I reboot. I go to use the scanner... and it doesn't
recognize that it's there. Then i'll try the TWAIN driver i installed from
before and that works but doesn't recognize the scanner is connected. It's
all set up/connected right but I don't know where to go next! Any suggestions?

If there are no XP compatible drivers available off the Acer website then
you need to get a new scanner.
