driver problem, Acerscan prisa 310P + WIN 2000 pro

Please can someone suggest what I should do next to make my parallel
port scanner work?I have spent hours on it.
My Acerscan prisa 310P worked well on my old computer with Win98, with
the drivers from the original cd,but would not work on Win2000pro. I
downloaded new drivers from BenQ and after setup and a restart, the
scanner was detected and installed by the Add New Hardware wizard.In
Device Manager the scanner is listed but with a yellow question mark.It
describes the scanner as working properly but without drivers,and after
trying to update drivers, remains unable to find new drivers,even
though drivers have been installed.
On the otherhand,when I try using my scanning software,having selected
the Mirascan v32.4 source, the scan driver window opens and shows
"searching for scanner" followed by "unable to find scanner"
If the scanner can't find the drivers and the drivers can't find the
scanner,where do I go from here?
A case of ne'er the Twain shall meet?
