Help with remote assistant

I have been trying to use remote assistance with a friend. We have both
turned off firewalls found in SP2 and virus scans, but are unable to get the
computers to make the handshake. It says it is loading and then says it
can't load, please try again. Any help
 
Are you are on router or your friend? If so this is probably your problem.
You would have to port forward 3389. Normally a Universal Plug and Play
(UpnP) router would do this for you.
