Help with Networking

When i use the home Networking Wizard and set up all that
it tells me to, on the second screen it shows my network
card but says its disconneted. what does this mean? i have
the ethernet cable connected and all. Please help!
 
What's the Ethernet cable plugged into on the other end? It will show up as
disconnected if it's unplugged on t'other side, or if it's a crossover
cable, etc etc etc -
 
Its plugged into my desktop running 98se's network card.
It just says that my networkcard is 'disconnected' and
that i cant go on withouth ignoring it or connecting it.
