help to scan and edit documents

I am a newbee have windows xp 4600c sharp am 900 digital
multifunctional system i have sharpdesk installed also microsoft
works how do I scan then edit documents need step by step directions

software and hardware.

Mike - Adding to Dave;s suggestion - usually when scanning you select
document or image - selecting document should present dialogue giving you
the option to scan to a text editor (Microsoft Word or OCR program.
