I have received an important document in MS DOCX format. XP Media Edition SP3
will not open this document. What do I need to download and install that
will allow DOCX to be viewed and printed on XP Media Edition??? Thanks for
everyone's help.

It is a Microsoft Word 2007 document. If you don't have Microsoft Word, or
Word viewer, it won't open. And, if it's a previous version of Word, you'll
need the compatibility pack from Microsoft.

No, this has nothing to do with XP Media edition. The reason you can't
open it is that you don't have the needed version of Microsoft Word
installed.

The .docx format is the native format of Microsoft Word 2007, and Word
2007 is almost certainly what the document was created in. Do you have
Word 2000, 2002, or 2003 installed? If so, you can download and
install the "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint 2007 File Formats" at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en
or http://tinyurl.com/m34dha

If not, you can first download and install the Word Viewer at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=3657ce88-7cfa-457a-9aec-f4f827f20cac
or http://tinyurl.com/2slboy

and then download and install the above compatibility pack. See
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=0c6ed839-0b6f-46b1-8293-7378b2baea18
or http://tinyurl.com/ncuquc

Alternatively, if you have an older version of Word (or some
compatible program), you can ask the person who sent you the file to
resend it, after using "Save as" to save it in .doc format instead of
..docx.
