Software Problem

Recently I've tried to scan a document into MS Word so I could change it
without retyping the entire document. I get the following message: An OCR
application is provided for you on your CD in the OCR directory. Select OK to
cancel this scan operation, install your OCR software, and try your scan
again. I'm using a Dell Dimension 4600C with Windows XP, Service Pack 2
installed. The printer is a Dell All-In-One A940. After speeking to a Dell
Rep, I've been told that I need to buy a software package from Microsoft
which will allow me to accomplish the task. After days of searching I've been
unable to locate such a software package. Please, can anyone assist me with
this issue?
Thank you Roger

Hmmm. Did you install *all* the software on the Dell AIO A940 CD? The Dell
All-In-One ought to have come with some OCR software, I'd think (Windows
doesn't). According to http://pcworld.about.com/news/May012003id110545.htm
it comes with Abbyy FineReader.

I don't think MS has an OCR app. There are plenty available, though - maybe
even some free ones. But your Dell should've come with this.

Which version of Microsoft Word ( Office ) ? Versions 2003/2007
include a "Document Imaging" function that includes OCR capability.
If your version is not one of the later, then you'll need to purchase a
3rd-party OCR package such as OmniPage or others.

It may be that Office is setup without the native OCR and you need
to run Office Setup to include/add the "Document Imaging" and OCR
features.
