Can someone recommend Text Recognition software (OCR (Optical Charactor
Recognition) that can be used with HP LaserJet 3055 Printer/Scanner/Fax
machine? So need to scan a picture of words (a typed letters)and turn it
into an editable document that can be opened and used in your desktop
publishing software, word processor, or other text editor.

thanks.

You never mentioned if you are only interested in freeware or if payware is
also an option. For freeware, see:

http://www.simpleocr.com/

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Miscellaneous/FreeOCR.shtml
(http://www.softi.co.uk no longer lists or even mentions FreeOCR anymore)

Since about year 2000 major printer manufacturers usually
distribute free OCR software with their products.

???? Not in my experience. Not at all. I've never seen OCR software
coming with any printer.

However, free OCR software often comes with scanners. Perhaps that's
what you meant to say.

Then too he could be talking about those all-in-one units that are a
printer, fax, copier, and scanner...

Yes, possibly. Maybe even likely. But that wasn't at all clear from
what he wrote.
