Hello all,

I recently put together this new computer, but i think im having some
compatability issues.... any help or suggestions would be nice.

Ok here is the story. I have a AMD 5000 Windsor 2.6ghz CPU and a Abit
Fatal1ty AN9 32x mobo, i have a XFX 7900GS 256mb and bit video card. I
have a 600 watt Rosewill PSU. the sound card the mobo came with, THe
Transformer case and a saitek eclispe keyboard and a mouse not that
imporant, and i have 4gb of Crucial memory DDR2. 300gb maxtor HD

well, i thought awesome system build... Runs fast runs OS great, i can
do my everyday work on it w/o any problems... at the end of school
work, of course video game time... DING Problem, The games i am
currently running on this computer is; Sims 2 Universty, Age of
Empires 3, World of Warcraft, Battle Field 2 Euro and Armored Forces,
and FSX. I havn't got to play FSX lately becuase i havn't dug out my
flight sim sstuff, but for all i know it runs ok on mostly maxed out
settings, Sims 2, i think runs ok, i dont remeber any hangs or crashes
on this game, and if i have had some, i dont remember any. Age of
Empires 3, This game crashes a whole lot, i might be able to play for
a half hour, or hour, just depends i cant predict anything and theres
no way i have found to force the hang or crash, World of Warcraft and
BatteField 2, same way as Age of Empires...

First suspected thing, bad memory, nope ran mem test over 48 hours
straight, no errors.... back to the same place..
ok, well maybe hard drive issues, nope ran the seagate tools on the
maxtor no errors clean also...
the sytem doesnt get hot nothing gets over 40oC, i have heard that
rosewill is a good PSU and i dont think anything isnt getting enough
power..

other thing i have suspected is the on board sound card for the
mobo.... i have tried disabling the card through windows and bios
still no changes, some games wont even run w/o a recongized sound
card... i guess disabling from bios or windows isnt the same as
physically taking the card out... havnt tried that yet, but i would
like to see if anyone else has a simler build and having same
problems, or knows more about this hardware...

Any help i would greatly thank for
thanks for reading :)

Have you plugged in the power connector to the video card?

You cannot remove onboard sound, it's hardwired/integrated into the
mainboard.

Have you tried Orthos ?

http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm

Orthos should run for at least four hours, without stopping on an error.
Orthos is good at uncovering memory errors. In terms of coverage,
on my 1GB machine, it grabs 700+ MB for its testing.

Memtest86+ tested the memory (and to some extent the processor).

Orthos does the same thing, only the test method used (Prime95
torture test code) is better at finding problems, than memtest86+.
But running both tests is still recommended, as memtest86+ tests
every memory location, while Windows testing doesn't.

If Orthos runs without error, then it could be that the video card
is not working properly.

You could try some of the 3DMark series, and see how they run. They
should be fault free (at least, compared to some games). In 3DMark,
either try running the benchmark, or if the program has it, there
is also the "Demo Loop". I've left the demo loop running overnight,
as a stability test.

You could also try "ATITool", which is a video card overclocking tool.
But you don't have to overclock with it. You could use its stability
test, to test the video card, and see if it passes or not.

As for your power supply, I don't think your total system power would
be a problem. For some comments on PSU brands, try a thread like this:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088

Rosewill is in Tier 5, down there with the likes of "Deer".
But nothing runs like a Deer...

I had a similar problem and the cause was a power supply. First let me say
it was a 600 watt cheap ps.
I was running a 6600gt and quake 4 would crash about 15 minutes into the
game. So after eliminating
everything I could I changed the PS and presto no more crashes. I did have
some help as I borrowed
an extra ps from a friend and that cured the problem and then I bought one.
BTW it ran fine in the 2d mode.

You problem could also be heat related.

I would look at video card overheating. Try opening the side of the case
and setting a room fan up blowing directly into the case. If you don't
get crashes, chances are you've you inadequate cooling.

I have ran Memtest over 48 hours and no errors, and i have ran it over
one time, i dont think its the memory or over hearting. Beucase the
case has good air flow, like i said i have utilitys on the motherboard
that show the temp. of the PSU, CPU, and Case temps... nothing gets
hot, i have an intake fan on the HD and Video card, i dont think heat
is my problem....

Change the PSU, Rosewill is cr*p! Buy a decent PSU, you get what you pay
for.

ok i found a Xclio Goodpower for about $50 on newegg... it has 101
reviews 500 wattts over %70 effiencey at heavy load, i have noticed in
reviews that people have been saying that this PSU actually blows its
exhaust into the computer, on to the CPU, which i dont think its a
huge problem for me i have 3 outake fans next to the CPU/PSU area and
2 intake by it, mobo has a stock of 2 fans on the board, and i have a
180mm fan on the back... any1 who has had experience with this PSU?
thanks for the help:)

it has ... 500 wattts

Wattage is nearly meaningless unless you're talking about a
high-quality brand power supply. In other words, look for a brand
first, or look for a particular model.

You have got to be kidding... A PSU that blows the heat onto the CPU ?
Who would buy such a thing ?

Try again. There are hundreds of PSUs on Newegg, and you're bound to
find something that blows the air the right way.

Believe me, a PSU that blows hot air *into* a computer is a *BIG*
problem. I had one that caused me terrible grief; and I had six fans
blowing in the case.

It also shows that the power-supply-maker/designer had his head up his
ass. If they make such a horrid mistake on THAT: Overheating the CPU
and motherboard, just to put a lower load on their product ... I
wouldn't trust their product as far as I could throw it by the smoke
coming out of the back!

If I found a PSU I'd bought had *that* mistake in it, I'd ass-u-me they
had other mistakes in it just as bad; and it would be returned so fast
there'd be a hole in the air! (If the company that sold it wouldn't
take it back for that reason, I would stop dealing with those people.)

Get the message?

You have *NO* idea how much headache that simple mistake can make.

430 watts will power 4gb a ram, my processor, and my video card? If it
will, I can get a Thermaltake 430watt PSU, everyone else seems to like
it.... Thanks for the help

You need to spend more than $50!! If you go to $65 and buy a decent
brand you will get a better quality PSU. A good quality 450W PSU is better
than a rubbish 550W. Cheap PSUs struggle to privide 75% of the claimed
output. You want max power, not peak power, there is a difference.
