help please

used msconfig to uncheck a couple of startup boxes-got the info from
pacsportal-the only ones i unckecked were suggested to be virus related..now,
when i boot there's a small, empty white box on my desktop and all the icons
are highlighted..can this be fixed?thanx

First of all, download AdAware from www.lavasoft.de It's a free spyware
removal utility. Some spyware act just like a virus, but are not. So, virus
software doesn't pick up on it.
After you download and install it, Check For Updates. These guys update this
software about as often as virus companies update their virus software.
Then run a complete default scan.
Select all the items it finds (you can right click one and select Select
All)
Click Next and allow it to delete (quarantine) them.
That alone my cure your problem.
