Can anyone please tell me why when im on a web page, then click on a link i get this message saying FILE DOWNLOAD with information saying certain files can harm your computer etc. It asks me if i want to OPEN/SAVE/ CANCEL.It also has a tick box saying Always ask before opening this type of file. But if untick the box or click on cancel it keeps coming back on and wont allow me to go to my link. This doesnt happen every time but when it starts say after i been browsing for 10 15 mins it wont go away. Ive checked for virus's and defragged but dont know what else to do,so if anyone as any ideas i would be very gratefull. Thanks Mushy

You should go to control-panel,R.click internet options, create a shrtcut to th
desktop and use it daily.Open internet options, delete cookies, delete all off-lin
files. This only deletes internet garbage, you can view the cookies/files befor
you delete and see how quickly it builds up.Then go to run, type:%Temp
then edit, select all, delete all.Web sites leave spyware in here, and all downloa
temporery files that are now not needed get dumped here. After empty, recycle bin.

Please post links of these websites, so we can check what they do.
They sound like rogue pages, though. Don't click on anything on
suspect pages.

More info about parasites:
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
Consider the IE-SpyAd utility in this page to immunize against
malicious pages.

Perform a malware scan with at least ad-aware and spybot, both free
anti-spyware, updated before the scan.

Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.

You can also download Hijack This from here:

http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe

Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of
BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It
is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you
the ability to disable them.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mushy,

Try downloading it with another browser, like mozilla:
http://mozilla.org/

Another thing you can do is go to Start > Run > msconfig
startuptab and disable everything that looks suspicious.
Or boot in safe mode (F8) with networking so you can get to the web.

Go here if you don't know what the programs do:

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.php

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Good luck
