I just recently updated my Gateway from windows me to
windows xp and I have no sound. Updated all my drivers
and made sure they are functioning properly but still no
sound. A friend mentioned that a wire needed to be
plugged into a different slot in the guts of the machine.
Is this true???????? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks skc

This is for CD audio sound: a cable connects CD and sound card.
However, if the sound worked in Windows ME there is no need to check
this because this is hardware-related and has nothing to do with your
Windows version.
I would remove all sound-related items from the Device Manager and
restart Windows so that the drivers are reinstalled. You could also
contact the manufacturer of the sound card for newer drivers.
