My laptop (winxp home) was working ok.
I used Drivermax to update my drivers.
downloaded and installed a few.
tried to reboot laptop and so far the screen stays blank.(black) (been
laoding for 30 minutes)
I did try safe mode and I can get in to that.
I am currently trying system restore and it has been running for approx 30
minutes on restart with a blank screen

desperately will need help as going abroad with laptop in 3 days time and
need to sort.
If you can possibly help please follow this post

I will update tomorrow (uk)

I will appreciate any help on this as I am not too clever with computer and
probably me thats messed up.

thanks

Sorry, no help except to say, that most people don't suggest updating
drivers on a routine basis. The drivers that came with your PC are
probably all you will ever need. My Dell Laptop is 3 years old and
I've never upgraded any drivers. If they worked day one, unless you
change hardware, I see no need to update drivers.

My humble opinion however. Take it with a grain of salt.

1. Start in Safe Mode if you can (usually key F8 during reboot).
2. And then run System Restore to restart as of a recent
date BEFORE you used Drivermax. This works only if you
had System Restore configured to save good boot data.

Doesn`t look as if system restore is going to work had it running for a few
hours and did not restore.
Also tried `last known good cofiguration` no joy.

Is "Safe Mode" still working ?

Did Drivermax attempt to update your graphics driver ?

Laptop graphics drivers are a little different than desktop
video cards. Desktop video cards are generally all similar
and based on a reference design (while some cards have small
differences, the differences are not enough to prevent an
image on the screen). Thus, a graphics driver downloaded from
ATI or Nvidia, will work most of the time, and work as well
as the driver that came in the desktop video card box.

But as far as I know, not all aspects of the video hardware
in a laptop, are covered by Plug N' Play. The graphics driver
the laptop manufacturer offers for download, is the correct
one for the flavor of LCD panel installed in the laptop.
The laptop manufacturer is the first place you look for a
driver. So you want to go to Dell/HP/Acer/Gateway for
that. Going to ATI/Nvidia/Intel or some other GPU chip
manufacturer, won't give nearly as good results. That might
be a reason to get a black screen - the graphics output
isn't going to the LCD any more.

It still works in safe mode, I think graphics was one of the drivers.
Its a Dell laptop so will go and look for graphic driver.>

Of course you know by now that was not a wise thing to do. There is no
reason to update your laptop drivers by using anyone other than the
manufacturer of that laptop. Dell has a comprehensive update area on their
site for your laptop and you should not use DriverMax or anyone else to do
the job that Dell have already done so well.
