Hi Folks,

My mail server (postmaster) is getting hundreds of returned emails every
day. I have always left my SMTP relays closed and have checked every other
setting on my mail server software for the tightest security and anti spam
settings. I'm using Internet Anywhere Mail Server.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out how all these
messages are being sent? My mail server only maintains 5 pop accounts and a
few aliases. The returned emails all say they came from my server. Is
there any way to find out what is going on?

Thanks very much,
Jack

I am having much the same issue. however, while i don't know the exact one, i think it is due to one of these new mail viruses. They infect someones computer and then mail to all the addresses, however they also send it as from one of contacts in the infected user's mail client. What I was initially getting was return mail that had "virus warning - you mail was infected", this being due to the virus mailing itself as an attachment
If this wasn't bad enough a new varient has come out that also tries to create new address from the list it is given i.e a (e-mail address removed) is sent to, but so is joe.blogg1 joe.bl0ggs j0e.bl0ggs..... Now this sounds more like what you are seeing - the returned mail - usually with a "unknown mail address" error
In my case I am using mailmarshal mail software and i can check the outgoing mail from each address - no such mail is being sent from the address quoted in the returned mail - I think you can rest easy.
