Help.. can't log into Windows any more

Hi,

I have borrowed a laptop from work and attempted to log it into my home
network.

To attach it to the network I simply (stupidly) changed the network domain
to my generic "WORKGROUP" one (Using the login I have which has
administrator privileges)

Now I can't even get past the windows login window... and there is no domain
to select any more...

Help !!

thanks,
Mike

did you change the domain name or move the laptop in to a workgroup instead?

Did you change settings such as IP address subnet and default gateway?

Hi,

Good question,
I went into System Properties,
and changed the "Member of" from the Domain that was there, to
"Workgroup"... (named WORKGROUP).

This might explain why I don't get the "Domain" option on the login screen
anymore .

Cheers,
Mike

That is the reason we lock down computers and take admin rights away from
people like you. Once you remove it from the domain, you can't add it back
unless you are on your work's network. Then you will need to know your
resource domain, probably need a username, and pw to add it back in. You
hosed up your computer. You will have to call your support when you get
back into work.

Dear Fred,

Fair comment, if a bit harsh...
we all learn from mistakes... some of us need to hose down a pc occasionally
in the process.

Problem sorted...
Local Admin login used.

Thanks to all who offered advice.

I have to revisit this because I did it to mine. The problem is that the
company that gave me the laptop as a parting gift no longer exists. I
thought I had admin rights on the machine, but I guess not because I can't
log in. What are my options here? Do I have to throw out the machine??? If
so, is any of the data recoverable?

I appreciate the help! Thanks - Dave
