User cannot log on while connected to the network

I have a laptop which, when connected to the network at the login screen,
cannot log in to the domain.
If the user disconnects from the network and logs in with the cached profile
it succeeds. They then have to reconnect and syncronise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there any error message when the logon fails?
