Help - Cannot do System Restore

T

Tom Ferrara

Whenever I try to do a System Restore, I get the following message:

"Your computer cannot be restored to:

(checkpoint time and name)

No changes have been made to your computer.

To choose another restore point, restart System Restore."

No matter which checkpoint I choose, I always get this same message. Is
there some service I need to start to be able to do System Restores? Any
help would be appreciated.

Hi Tom,

This can be an indication of a corrupt restore point. Disabling and then
enabling System Restore normally corrects the problem. But in the
process all restore points are lost.

To maybe avoid this make sure the system is virus/malware free. Then
retry System Restore.

Another option would be to reduce the space System Restore uses to store
restore points. This should be done in small increments while trying to
perform a restore in between. As it's reduced the oldest restore points
will be deleted. System Restore requires all previous restore points to
complete the restore, so there's a chance the corrupt restore point will
be deleted and allow the restore proceed.
