Restore Does Not Work

P

Paul of El Cajon

Last night/this morning, I attempted to restore my computer to a system
restore point on the 18th of Jan. The computer went through all the motions
and ended up giving me the following message:

"Your computer cannot be restored to: Thursday January 18, 2007 System
Checkpoint. No changes have been made to your computer. To choose another
restore point, restart System Restore."

I did just that. I chose another restore point and got the same results 3
times.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with my computer and how to fix it?

Thank you very much in advance.

Is your computer infested with any Norton/Symantec products? Many of
these are known to interfere with the operation of System Restore. Try
disabling (or even better, uninstalling) these and see if that makes a
difference.

You could also try booting into Safe Mode and then running System
Restore.

Good luck

If the links that LAH posted do not help you to sort things out please
post another response back here and we will pursue it further.

Good luck

I am responding to my own message because this message is to everyone who
responded.

First, I would like to thank you for responding to me troubles.

I use Norton Anti-Virus. I turned all functions off but still could not
restore. I started everything in Norton again. Then I went into SAFE Mode
and attempted a restore from there. (As a side note, be sure you have your
restore icon on your desktop as close to the upper left corner as possible.
The icons are LARGE and you may never be able to see it if it isn't on the
left side.) I ran System Restore while in SAFE Mode and it worked
perfectly. Norton and Microsoft just do not play well together.

Thank you ALL again for all your help.

I did a search for "restore" in the Microsoft Knowledgebase but the one
bulletin never came up. Wonder why.
