Help and support services not able to start

Guest

I have read all threads regarding this issue and still unable to resolve.
Approximately 200 users with the same issue in our domain.

When I attempt to start the "Help and Support" service, I receive the
following message:

"The Help and Support service on local computer started and then stopped.
Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the
performance logs and alert service."

All dependency services are running (RPC).

I performed the following:

helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 jscript

Ran Helpsvcfix
Ran fixwinxphelp.vbs

The only thing I have not performed is re-installation as this is not
practical for all 200 PC's.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi,

Click Start, Run and type:

CMD /K SC QC HELPSVC

Include the output in your reply.

CBrunnmeier,

The service settings are correct. I was hoping to see a different value (
Local Service ) for the SERVICE_START_NAME setting, but all is correctly
set.

See if this helps: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rebuildhelp.htm

Ramesh,

That did it!
Thank you very much for your assistance.

I see many posts regarding this problem. I realize many are attributed to
service issues however this particular issue seems to be related to SP2.
This solution might be worth posting to Microsoft's knowledgebase.

Thanks again,

Chris
