As of a couple of days ago, when I try to access any folders inside
E:\Documents and Settings\JohnSmith, I get an error message; for example,
"E:\Documents and Settings\JohnSmith\Favorites is not accessible. Access is
denied."
Here's the history. Until a couple of days ago, I had a working dual-booting
system with Windows 2000 on my notebook's C partition, and Windows XP
Professional on the E partition. Then I decided I didn't need 2000 any more,
so I thought I'd update the C partition to XP as well -- so I'd have two
XPs, one on C and one on E. (I need to do this because I'm beta testing
software and don't want it to mess up my everyday common files folder.)
What I didn't realize was that the upgrade from Win2k to XP would blow away
the boot files that let formerly let me choose to boot into 2000 or XP. So,
while I still have a copy of XP installed on my E partition, I can't boot
it.
And (back to my original question)... although I can access every other
folder on the E partition, I can't get into my own Documents and Settings
folders. I'd also like to be able to get to my Outlook Express address book
and e-mails on that drive.
What's really puzzling is that I can get into the Administrator's Docs &
Settings folders without needing to provide a password -- but I can't get
into my own stuff, even though I'm using the same user name and password.
Is there anything I can do to get access to these folders?
