headphone bug

there seems to be a little bug with the headphones jack. recently the left
speaker of the headphone started to fail and i thought it was the headphones
but it wasn't, i took them off and there wasn't any sound coming from the
speakers (vaio laptop), like the headphones were still in, and every time i
move the jack a little bit, the sound comes on again. is there a way to fix
this without sending the laptop to a shop?

Do you use the headphone jack alot, ie plugin and unplug many times? If so,
it is possible that the jack wore out. THe interesting thing is that you you
said when you took them out you got no sound from viao speakers. I'm curious
to know if you rebooted right after you took the headphones out and then
tried tha vaio interneal speakers if they worked??? Other than that have you
tried diiferent headphones. The jack on the headphones could be worn out,
unlikely but possible. X, if the unit is covered under warranty (if it IS the
jack on the laptop) I would have sony repair it. That's the best fix.
However, if it's not then u may want to try what I'm about to tell you. Again
I don't recommend you doing it, it's up to you. But I've tried it and it
works if you're not moving the notebook around alot. If you're not careful
you can do more damage than good. Option 1) tie a piece of thread around the
headphone jack to tighten the connection and leave a piece hanging out when
you insert it. Make sure you leave a long enough piece so you can get it out
if it gets stuck. Option 2) take a toothpick and stick it in the jack when
you put your headphones in so that it tightens the connection and both sides
play. Be careful and good luck and if you could send it in for repair that
would probably be the best...

NO! The headphone jack is loose and may need to be fixed/replaced. This
involves soldering so take it to a repair shop and ask for a repair estimate.
