Having programs start when XP boots

How do I make a program start when XP boots? In Win98, I used to put
shortcuts in the "Startup" folder, but now that just adds them to the start
menu.

No, you can still add a short cut to the startup folder just as before.

Each profile, including All Users has a startup folder. All Users works
for all users and the other folders work for those accounts.
